St Boswells Childcare is looking to employ an engaging, nurturing, playwark to join our team!

As a playworker you will be working with children between the ages of 4-12 years and provide a child-centered service for children and young people, in a safe, secure and homely environment. You will be working within a dedicated team of Professional Play Workers and you must be enthusiastic, highly motivated and nurturing.

We expect interviews for this post to take place the w/c 4th September with the successful candidate in post for 16th October 2023.

Job summary: Assist with day to day activities of a vibrant out of school club. We are committed to providing an active, creative, educational and fun environment, offering children new experiences alongside a safe and nurturing space.

Playworkers will provide quality childcare within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures and National Care Standards.

Hours: 19 hours per week (Term Time)

After School Club

Monday - Thursday: 2:45pm - 6:15pm

Friday: 12pm - 5pm

Holiday Club Sessional Hours - 7:15am - 6pm

Shifts are negotiable within this.

Free childcare for staff will be available during our holiday care service.

Salary: £10.50 hour

Line manager: Out of School Club Manager

Responsible for: Not applicable

Working relationships: Children attending the club and their parents/care, Management and staff, including students and volunteers, Schools and registering authorities, Workshop Facilitators.

Main duties include:

- Escorting children safely to and from the Service.

- Ensuring that all resources are safe and age appropriate.

- Ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed to ensure the health and wellbeing of the children in our care.

- Competence in planning activities in advance in consultation with children.

- Developing good relationships with the service users; children, young people and parent/carers.

- Ensure all medication is safely managed in line with best practice guidance.

- The ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with issues arising within the service to ensure that the privacy and dignity of service users, parents and staff members is respected.

- Knowledge of the Care Inspectorate standards and grading system and how they relate specifically to the out of school care environment.

- A willingness to actively participate in regular training opportunities to ensure own learning and development is kept up to date and relevant.

- You are required to register with SSSC within 6 months of your employment.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES:

· Experience of working or volunteering with 4 to 11 year olds

· Understanding the varied needs of children and their families

· Understanding the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care

· Understanding the issues of equal opportunities

· Provide and facilitate safe and creative play

· Good communication skills

· Able to work as part of a team

· Sound judgement and common sense

· A sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm

DESIRABLE QUALITIES:

· Experience of working within a play-based setting

· Ability to work on own initiative

· Relevant Level 2 qualification or willingness to work towards this

· Appropriate child protection training

· Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate

· Food Hygiene Certificate
